The Kerala government`s decision to take excess water from the Siruvani Dam, which is contrary to the 1973 agreement, is seen here by officials as a twisted tactic of that state to get Tamil Nadu to give more water from Lake Aliyar. Environmental activists have expressed concern over the construction of new dams in the Yamuna Basin. The governments of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh recently approved a draft intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Lakhwar, Renuka and Kishau dams on the Yamuna and its tributaries. Field investigations by a non-governmental organization show that the Kishau dam project will involve eight Himachali villages and nine others in Uttarakhand. As for the PAP agreement, Tamil Nadu has given reasonable and reasonable water to its neighbor, even in the absence of an emergency sharing formula, officials say here.
